Inside Retail presents the Australian Retail Index. The index gives a quick overview of retail statistics in four key categories; fashion and accessories, furniture and homewares, sporting and recreational, and other. Key retail statistics are shown weekly, with yearly comparisons available. The second week of spring has delivered positive news for retailers with a lift in retail sales growth of 5.69 per cent compared to the previous week. The first week of spring delivered a quite flat result o
of 0.52 per cent, so last week’s positive news should give retailers across the country some optimism in the lead up to the Christmas trading period.
The stand out performer was the fashion and accessories sector with a positive result of over 20 per cent growth. This eclipses the 2014 figure of 8.93 per cent and sets somewhat of a single week growth record for this sector. Positive results were also seen in furniture and homewares (5.60 per cent) and sporting and recreational goods (0.89 per cent).
