Retail sales recover from Easter slump

Inside Retail presents the Australian Retail Index.

The index gives a quick overview of retail statistics in four key categories; fashion and accessories, furniture and homewares, sporting and recreational, and other.

Key retail statistics are shown weekly, with yearly comparisons available.

Retail sales across the country have rebounded following a disappointing Easter trading period.

Overall sales grew by 3.90 per cent compared to the previous week, and were also well ahead of the same week last year.

The Fashion and Accessories and Furniture and Homewares categories showed positive gains of more than seven per cent and five per cent respectively.

The only sector which did not meet growth expectations was Sporting and Recreational goods which shrank by 4.31 per cent.
