Remaining Dick Smith’s final hours

dicksmithThe remaining 195 Dick Smith stores in Australia will close doors for good next month.

The receivers of the failed consumer electronics chain announced to shareholders and creditors that the remaining  stores in Australia will be closed progressively between April 27 and May 3.

The majority of Dick Smiths 390 stores across Australia and New Zealand began closing in April, with the final 21 slated to shut their doors on May 3.

“This has been a difficult and uncertain time for employees and we have really appreciated their assistance and commitment,” said Ferrier Hodgson’s, James Stewart in a statement.

Stewart said all Australian employee entitlements were expected to be paid in full and New Zealand employees who are made redundant are expected to be paid in full up to a maximum of $NZ22,160 ($A19,877.11) under New Zealand law.

Australian online retail giant Kogan.com will take control of Dick Smith’s Australian and New Zealand online business from June 1.
