Super Retail Group’s sportswear business, Rebel, was awarded this year’s top prize for customer experience in a large business at the 2019 Retailer Awards, presented by Inside Retail and Commonwealth Bank. Rebel was just one of several retailers honoured at the awards, which took place at Central Pier in Melbourne on Thursday and brought together executives from across the country to celebrate the industry’s achievements. e delivering an outstanding customer experience in every aspect of their business, from store design, to customer service to omnichannel concepts.
Other winners on the night were Home, Furniture, Bedding & Outdoor, which took home the award for customer experience of the year for a small business, Merchant 1948, which was recognised for its in-store customer service and Appliances Online, which was named the online store of the year. The judges of this year’s awards were Commonwealth Bank’s national retail industry lead Jerry Macey, Vicinity Centre and JB Hi-Fi non-executive director Wai Tang, The General Store executive strategy director Matt Newell, Queensland University of Technology associate professor Gary Mortimer, and Inside Retail acting editor Heather McIlvaine.
“Customer experience has never been more important to a retailer’s success,” McIlvaine said.
“With increased choice and faster delivery making online shopping more and more convenient, retailers need to give their customers a compelling reason to shop in-store.
“The winners of the 2019 Retailer Awards show that there is no shortage of such businesses in Australia.”
