American fashion house Ralph Lauren will host a fashion show in Central Park in New York City to celebrate its 50th anniversary.

The show, which will take place on the second day of the New York Fashion Week, includes a gala dinner to benefit the Central Park Conservatory, a private non-profit organisation that relies on donations for the park’s upkeep.

Ralph Lauren started the eponymous label in 1967 as a collection of men’s ties before launching the first Polo menswear collection in 1968. Womenswear was introduced in the 1970s.

The label posted strong first quarter results for the 2018 fiscal year last month, driven by sales in Asia and Europe.

Ralph Lauren posted a 19 per cent increase in sales to US$248 million ($344.6 million) in Asia on a reported basis, and 16 per cent on a constant currency basis.

Same-store sales increased 6 per cent on a constant currency basis, reflecting growth in both the bricks-and-mortar and digital commerce operations.

The brand’s European revenue increased 8 per cent in the first quarter, while North American revenue declined by 2 per cent.

Lauren, executive chair and chief creative officer of the company, said the team’s passion for the brand and the company, along with the support of Ralph Lauren president and CEO Patrice Louvet, gives him confidence in the company’s future as it celebrates its 50th year in business.
