Preview: Inside Retail Weekly 2112

IRWA sneak peek at what’s featured in tomorrow’s issue of Inside Retail Weekly….

Underscoring the lack of supply of large format retail space across the country, 630,000 square metres of large format space at the soon-to-be-former Masters Home Improvement sites has already been committed to by a collection of large format retailers. Home Consortium, the newly formed group that includes aged care start-up Aurrum Group and the families behind Spotlight Group and Chemist Warehouse, secured the Masters property portfolio for around $725 million and plans to develop the bulk of the sites into internal malls housing between four and six large format retail tenants. You can read all about it in our cover story this week

The Home Consortium story leads off our large format retail themed issue this week. Under this theme, we also dig into how the recurring debate around zoning and planning regulations for large format premises is set to heat up with the impending release of a government report on the matter; how Australia’s large format retail market is evolving into a new phase featuring more lifestyle brands and smaller footprints; and how Woolworths and its joint venture partner, US retailer, Lowe’s, have descended into a bitter legal battle over the failed Masters Home Improvement chain.

In From The Source this week we catch up with Darryl Abotomey, CEO of Bapcor (formerly known as Burson Group) to chat about the unique challenges of automotive-focused retail and how he plans to expand Autobarn and Autopro, Bapcor’s core retail brands, across Australia and beyond.

You’ll find all of this, and much more, in Inside Retail Weekly Issue 2112.
