Pac Brands announces redundancies

hard yakka pac brands Australian retailer Pacific Brands is set to make about 50 of its local employees redundant, as it takes jobs offshore.

The redundancies effect The WorkWear Group, a division of Pac Brands that supplies custom uniforms to businesses.

The redundancies will be complete by early 2014 and effect the group’s customer service division.

A spokesperson for the group told Inside Retail that the new customer service representatives will be based in Manila in the Philippines.

The spokesperson said they didn’t expect a consumer backlash, as the redundancies do not effect Pac Brand’s retail services.

“We’re doing it because we expect [the decision to lead to] vastly improved services.”

Pac Brands operates retail chain Bonds, as well as other prominent lingerie brands, such as Berlei.

It employees approximately 5200 employees.

The spokesperson said the group has increased that number by 350 employees since last year.

The WorkWear group encompasses brands KingGee, Stubbies, Stylecorp, NNT Uniforms, and the iconic brand, Hard Yakka.

This is not the first time that Pac Brands has announced significant redundancies.

In 2009, the group announced 1800 job losses, as it moved manufacturing offshore.

The group said it saw no future in manufacturing in Australia, with most of its remaining production transferred to Asia.
