The luxury handbag retailer has signed a joint venture agreement with the Brooks Brothers label to extend its presence in Australia and New Zealand.

Oroton will hold a 51 per cent majority in the new agreement, which is intended to run for an initial term of 10 years.

“We are very excited by the opportunity to partner with such a famous and distinguished brand,” Oroton Group CEO Mark Newman said.

“The brand is recognised around the world and already has a loyal customer base here.”

Newman spearheaded the company’s push into Asia and replaces former CEO Sally Macdonald, who resigned after seven years in the role.

Up to eight standalone and concession stores are expected to be up and running in early 2014.

A local online store will also be established.

In another Australian connection, Brooks Brothers decked out most of the male actors in Baz Luhrmann’s recent film adaptation of The Great Gatsby.
