New chief for PayPal Australia

PayPal has named Jeff Clementz as MD of PayPal Australia.

In his new role, Clementz will focus on driving payment innovations by working with Australian businesses and industry partners to enable commerce across multiple channels as technology continues to rapidly change the retail and payments landscape in Australia.

He joins PayPal Australia after nine years with the company’s San Jose HQ. He previously led merchant risk policy and strategy, risk product infrastructure, consumer protections and consumer product management teams, and PayPal says he has a deep understanding of the end-to-end customer experience. Most recently he led the operational excellence team for global customer service and operations.

Rupert Keeley, PayPal’s senior VP for Asia Pacific, said: “Jeff brings with him the type of expertise that will be integral to leading the development of our Australian business, as we enable payments online, on mobile and in store. PayPal plays a leading role in Australia’s advanced and rapidly growing online commerce market, enjoying a large domestic base of 4.5 million active customer accounts.

“The next few years will be critical for retailers to create new solutions that embrace both technological evolution and changing consumer behaviours. Jeff’s appointment comes at a time when established Australian retailers are making investments and looking to adjust their models in line with the new retail economy. In his new role, Jeff will work with our industry partners to accelerate and enable commerce in the new retail environment, bringing new capabilities to Australian retailers enabling them to compete on a global stage.”

Keeley concluded: “Beyond all of Jeff’s experience at PayPal, Jeff is an outstanding and highly-regarded leader with the right combination of global PayPal experience, deep customer insights and the ability to bring people together.”
