New appointments at Metcash

iga, metcash, supa iga , supermarketIan Morrice, CEO, Metcash Limited, has announced the appointment of Steven Cain as CEO, Supermarkets, and Mark Hewlett as executive general manager, new channels.

UK expat Cain brings considerable food retail and business experience, from his roles worth Coles, Asda (UK), Pacific Equity Partners and ITV (UK). From 2003 to 2005, Cain was group MD responsible for Coles Supermarkets, Coles Central Convenience Stores and Express Petrol Stations, Coles Online, Liquorland and Vintage Cellars.

Cain will commence his Metcash tenure on August 1.

Hewlett has spent the last three years leading the convenience business development for Woolworths, as well as being responsible for the day to day running of Thomas Dux. Hewlett also has experience with both Aldi and Lidl, having spent over 12 years in the UK with the German discount retailers in senior retail, buying and format development roles.

Hewlett will start with Metcash on August 12.

Morrice said Cain and Hewlett are, “very strong additions to our executive team and will considerably strengthen our retile knowledge and capability.”
