Myer fires liar

MyerMyer has been forced to sack its newly appointed group MD of strategy and business development after it emerged he lied about his previous employment.

New employ, Andrew Flanagan, is said to have falsified his resume to secure the position at Myer.

Flanagan claimed to have formerly worked as MD and VP Asia Pacific of Inditex, owner of Zara, however, according to media reports, Inditex says it has never heard of Flanagan, much less employed him.

It is believed his resume also included previous tenures with both Tesco and Walmart. It has not been confirmed if these details are correct or not.

Flanagan’s appointment was announced only last week, along with that of former Apparel Group CEO, Daniel Bracken, as chief merchandise and marketing officer, and Australia Post executive GM of e-commerce and parcel services, Richard Umbers as chief information and supply chain officer.

An investigation is now underway by Myer and the recruitment firm that placed Flanagan to determine how the CV inaccuracies managed to go undetected.
