Mass market romance

kikki-k-stationaryIt seems chocolate is very much still the go-to staple for Valentine’s Day.

Australian stationary retailer, kikki.K, has teamed up with Swiss chocolate brand, Koko Black, for a Valentine’s Day promotion.

The retailer’s limited edition product combines two Valentine’s Day favourites: chocolate and romantic greeting cards.

Koko Black’s chocolate block is fashioned in hand illustrated kikki.K branding and the slogan “life is short, eat chocolate first”.

The promotion positions kikki.K as a one stop shop for Valentine’s Day for time poor but romantic consumers.

The local chain is also jumping on the customisation trend by selling greeting cards with statements that need to be finished, such as “I love you more than…”

Kristina Karlsson, founder of kikki.K, told Inside Shopper the cross promotion with Koko Black is “the perfect combination”.

“We were brought together by our shared passion for beautiful design and small, simple luxuries that bring you and your loved ones joy.”

Kikki.K was founded in Melbourne in 2002 by namesake Karlsson and partner, Paul Lacy.

It takes inspiration from Karlsson’s homeland of Sweden and positions itself as a high end stationary chain.

Looking to other Valentine’s promotions, the New Zealand wing of pizza chain, Domino’s, is also promoting the occasion with chocolate.

Domino’s says it’s bringing back its Lover’s Lava Cake “just in time for the romantic day of the year”.

The heart shaped dessert is a mix between a brownie and a pudding and costs $3.99.

Domino’s group head development chef, Stefaan Codron, says the cake has been added to the menu especially for Valentine’s Day.
