Athletic apparel retailer, Lululemon, will open its first ‘local concept store’ in the Southern Hemisphere at Bondi Beach in Sydney before Christmas this year.

The new store, according to the retailer, will be part store and part meeting place, and act as a community hub.

“This location will take a traditional retail store and turn it into a connection point for those in the Bondi Beach community who exemplify Lululemon’s culture and values,” said Kyle Housman, VP, Lululemon AU/NZ.

Set over 125sqm, the store will feature a curated product assortment that “reflects the needs of local Bondi residents”. This will include a collection of the brand’s styles for both men and women, with a focus on products that “support sweaty activities above and underwater”.

“The goal of the Local is to act as a hub and allow us to speak directly to our community through localised and curated product, community-driven experiences and relationships,” said Ben Jackson, director brand & community Lululemon AU/NZ.

The store’s design, according to the company’s in-house design team, is based on the beauty and active lifestyle of Bondi Beach. Custom work by local artist Georgia Hill is the focal point of the design aesthetic with two large murals covering the length of two walls.

Lululemon’s collaboration with Sydney-based illustrator and artist Hill, who specialises in hand drawn type based artworks sees customised artwork throughout the store that epitomises the connection between Bondi Beach and Lululemon.
