Chances are that you’ll probably buy this quick and tasty meal from a petrol and convenience store… but it won’t be your dinner.

According to a survey by Him! research and consulting, one in two Australians would never buy dinner from these sorts of retailers.

Comparatively, 60 per cent of respondents said they would consider buying breakfast from a petrol station or convenience store, such as 7-Eleven.

The most popular meal time for the retail sector is lunch, which 65 per cent of respondents said they would consider.

Only 14 per cent of respondents said they would never buy bread or milk from a petrol store or convenience store.

Him! says the survey shows that most Australian shoppers are willing to consider the space for more than just snacks and petrol.

Angela Gorick, business development manager at Him!, told Inside Shopper last year that the sector is slowly changing.

“The petrol and convenience store used to be known for just letting people fill up and maybe get their chocolate and a drink,” says Gorick.

She says that stereotype is evolving due to global trends and consumers are expecting “their lunch, dinner, and groceries in the same shop”.

“Petrol stations have been providing some food to go in the past, but this hasn’t had a huge amount of take up.
