Jeanswest launches African collection

JeanswestFashion retailer, Jeanswest, has launched its latest capsule collection Jeanswest Africa, where they partnered with Ethical Apparel Africa to engage local businesses in Ghana to produce the new range of ethical clothing.

Jeanswest announced its new collection was made by skilled artisans in Ghana in order to promote a sustainable future for them and their communities.

“It was amazing to see the direct impact that this program has had on people’s lives; the skill, independence and progression it has taught them is invaluable,” Kate Davies, Jeanswest’s womenswear product developer stated.

According to the retailer, the inspiration for the new Africa range came from the artisans. “We were so excited to find out about the traditional technique of Kente that originated in Ghana, the sheer skill and time involved with handweaving the cloth felt like the right thing to base this range around. The print concept stemmed from the Kente design with a bolder execution.”

Jeanswest, an active brand member of the Council of Textile & Fashion, announced in November last year it wants to take a leadership role in paving the way for ethical fashion. The retailer has also posted a list detailing 80 per cent of its factory partners, which, according to them, is part of their commitment to ensuring transparency and safe working conditions in the company’s overseas supplier factories.
