2016 has kicked off in a hurry, with Dick Smith announcing it had gone into administration on January 5. Despite boasting about its growth prospects and profitability at an investor forum just a few months ago in October, the writing has been on the wall for Dick Smith for some time. Just before this issue was finalised came the news from Woolworths that it would finally bite the bullet and close its Masters chain of home improvement stores – on the very same day that Wesfarmers announced an acquisition strategy to launch its rampantly successful Bunnings chain in the UK.
