The newest shopping centre on the Gold Coast is on schedule to open its doors in just over four weeks’ time, with developers confirming an early December finish is on track. Austin Property Development has invested $65 million into building the two-storey, fully air conditioned Hope Island Marketplace, which boasts two major supermarkets, Aldi and Woolworths, a family medical centre and a pharmacy. The retail hub will also provide the community with a new style of fast-service restaurant
t meals, where the combination of convenience and great food will create a place to meet, eat and catch up with family and friends.
“There’s no question this shopping precinct will become the new heart of Hope Island,” said Ashley Moffatt of LJ Hooker Commercial.
“We have a majority of the 36 specialty retail spaces already under lease and being fitted out, and so many fresh- and fastfood outlets vying to be part of the Marketplace that there’s a truly positive vibe gaining momentum for this shopping centre,” he said.
One of the fast-food restaurants to open in the 10,000sqm site is Carl’s Jr – the first of the American-style chain’s burger bars to include a drive-through option.
Hope Island Marketplace is located on the major intersection of Broadwater Avenue and Mervyn Drive. A number of other proposed developments have fallen through in the area in recent years, despite a manifest need for such a retail centre.
“It is so exciting to see the Hope Island community getting the convenience, quality retail hub it’s needed for too long,” said Moffatt. “This suburb is one of the nation’s most affluent, with strong population growth forecast over the next decade.”
Hope Island Marketplace has a focus on family health and wellbeing, offering locals and visitors an F45 gym, a physiotherapy studio that will include a pilates room, an Amcal pharmacy and the Amtan Medical Centre run by Dr Tanya Unni.
