Chain puts its money where its mouth is

Zambrero Campaigne Civic Canberra Lisa Lois PhotographyMexican fresh food chain, Zambrero, which bills itself as ‘mexican on a mission’ is living up to its philosophy of giving back and aiding world hunger.

The 53 store chain has partnered with comedienne, Mel Buttle, for the Stand Up and Be Counted event on Zambrero’s Plate 4 Plate Day this Thursday (September 4).

According to the company: “Plate 4 Plate isn’t just an annual charity event; it’s Zambrero’s reason for being, its everyday initiative to tackle world hunger”.

Outside of Plate 4 Plate Day, for every burrito or bowl sold, Zambrero donates a meal, however, on Plate 4 Plate Day this turns into a double donation, and for every burrito or bowl sold two meals are provided to someone in need around the world or in an underprivileged Australian community.

Buttle has voiced a national radio ad promoting the charity day, on which Zambrero will donate two meals to the world’s hungry for every burrito or bowl it sells.

She will also step up to the plate literally, making burritos at  Zambrero’s Nundah restaurant in Brisbane on Plate 4 Plate Day between 6 and 8pm.

Buttle has appeared at the Melbourne Comedy Festival, as well as radio stints and television appearances including The Project and This Week Live.

A host of other up and coming comedians will also Stand Up and Be Counted by performing at a Zambrero restaurant, with all 53 Zambrero stores hosting free, family friendly stand up gigs on Plate 4 Plate Day.

Since Zambrero was founded in 2005, Plate 4 Plate has donated more than 3 million meals.  The meals are distributed by international hunger relief agency Stop Hunger Now, and in Australia through food relief agency, Foodbank.
