Flood impacts at Coles

Coles has implemented contingency plans to ensure essential food supplies are getting through to stores in Queensland and New South Wales impacted by the latest floods.

Coles MD Ian McLeod said that three Coles stores – in Bundaberg, Jimboomba and Inala – were currently closed due the impacts of the floods.

Deliveries to a further 20 stores across the north of the state have been hampered by the floods, affecting stock levels on shelf.

“Road and rail closures have meant many of our stores, particularly from Bundaberg north are running low on some food and grocery lines”, McLeod said.

“However, we are doing everything we can to find alternate transport routes to keep food supplied to these communities, to avoid the need for customers to heavily pantry stock.

“Right now we have 30 trucks loaded and making their way north from Brisbane via inland road routes to replenish affected stores, and we’ll continue to arrange these deliveries until our stores are fully back in stock.

“In the meantime we would ask for customer understanding and patience during these difficult circumstances.”

McLeod said the Coles Queensland and New South Wales teams had again gone to great lengths to help their local communities during the latest flood crisis.

“So far we’ve seen some incredible efforts by our store teams, including our team in Bundaberg, who cooked breakfast for the local SES workers and provided essential supplies including bottled water,“ he said.

Coles customers in Queensland can make donations to the 2013 Red Cross Queensland Flood Appeal at the supermarket register.

All donations over $2 are tax deductible and will be recorded on the receipt.
