A high end Australian fashion retailer is closing its local operations, including its network of stores, to focus on international growth. Sydney-based men’s and women’s fashion retailer, Saxony, made the announcement via its Facebook page. “It is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to Australia…for now,” Saxony wrote. “Our focus for the future will be to secure a presence on the international stage and introduce our outlook and values to alternative overs
seas markets.
“Our thoughts will never stray too far from the community of fans, followers, and collaborators who have supported us from the very beginning, and it is our aim to bring Saxony back to Australia as soon as it becomes possible.”
The men’s and women’s fashion chain opened its first store in 2010.
At its height, the retailer had nine stores in total, fours in both Sydney and Melbourne, as well as an outlet store on Brunswick St in Fitzroy, Melbourne.
Saxony still has three stores listed on its website including its head office and outlet store location in Sydney’s Rosebery, Westfield Sydney, and QV in Melbourne.
Inside Retail understands it is only the retailer’s outlet store that is still open.
Saxony launched its website and online store in 2012, however, the online store is no longer trading and features the sign, “Sorry the store is currently closed. Please check back soon”.
Last year Saxony spoke to Inside Retail PREMIUM and said it was in discussions with potential partnerships in Asia and had “a few options in play”.
Saxony was contacted by Inside Retail for comment.
