Inside Retail presents the Australian Retail Index.  

The index gives a quick overview of retail statistics in four key categories; fashion and accessories, furniture and homewares, sporting and recreational, and other.  

Key retail statistics are shown weekly, with yearly comparisons available.

Sales in the Fashion and Accessories sector rebounded strongly to 9.77 per cent last week, a positive turnaround after last week’s poor performance of -8.18 per cent.

This performance pushes Fashion and Accessories sector up into positive territory for the past 30 days overall, with an almost a three per cent positive gain.

Overall Sales were flat with a drop of 0.44 per cent which continues the negative run from the previous week.

Sporting & Recreational Goods was also in negative territory with a 8.59 per cent result.

This sector traditionally sees a quiet period this time of year so retailers will be hopeful this is merely a seasonal trend.
