EXCLUSIVE: Bernie Brookes interview

BernieBrookes2Inside Retail Weekly has secured the first Australian interview with Bernie Brookes since the former Myer CEO was appointed CEO and managing director of South African retail giant, Edcon, in July.

In the exclusive interview, to be published this Wednesday December 9 in Inside Retail Weekly Issue 2074, Brookes talks at length with managing editor, Justin Grey, about why he took the Edcon role; how he plans on turning around the ailing retailer with a whole of business makeover that is reminiscent, in parts, of the strategy he used to turn around both Myer in 2006, and Woolworths in the 1990s with Project Refresh; and the similarities and differences in retailing in South Africa and Australia.

Also in the interview, Brookes addresses Myer’s $600 million turnaround strategy and how he believes his successor, Richard Umbers, is faring in the CEO role at Myer.
