Myer loses chief operating officer

The key figure behind Myer’s omnichannel transformation, Mark Cripsey, is on his way out.

Joining Myer in 2015, Cripsey led the company’s e-commerce, IT, supply chain, data analytics and omnichannel teams as chief digital and data officer.

He was appointed chief operating officer by Myer’s chairman Garry Hounsell in January of this year and is expected to depart the department store business at the end of the month.

A Myer spokesperson called Cripsey “one of the most respected digital omnichannel retailers in Australia” and thanked him for his contribution to the business – namely, helping to grow online sales to become the third largest store.

“We thank Mark for the contribution he has made to the business and wish him all the very best for the future,” the spokesperson said.

The news is unrelated to Myer chief executive John King’s decision to cut 30 senior executive and management roles across the business less than two weeks ago.

At the time, a Myer spokesperson said the cuts were made after a thorough review of the support office identified opportunities to streamline roles and improve efficiency.

“As a result of this, a layer of executive and management roles will be leaving the business to align with our structure more closely with our customers,” the spokesperson said.
