Coles unveils expansion plan

 

ColesColes will create more than 16,000 new jobs across Australia as part of an investment of $1.1 billion in new supermarkets in the next three years.

The new stores to be located across the country are expected to create nearly 8500 full time jobs plus more than 8200 construction jobs.

Coles MD, Ian McLeod, said the $1.1 billion investment in new stores reflected Coles’ confidence in the future of Australia for the food retail sector.

“We are optimistic about the future and are firmly committed to customers, team members and communities across Australia,” McLeod said.

“These jobs will kick start careers for thousands of young Australians and provide new employment opportunities for thousands of other Australians looking for new jobs.”

Since 2008, Coles has spent more than $3 billion in rebuilding Coles across Australia to dramatically improve the customer experience.

Across Australia, Coles currently employs more than 100,000 team members at its supermarkets, liquor and Coles Express stores, support centres ,and distribution centres.

In the past five years,the supermarket giant has opened 100 stores and refurbished a further 350 stores nationally.
