Blaze breaks out at Westfield

Around 200 people were evacuated from Westfield Liverpool in Sydney’s west after a fire broke out on Tuesday.

A NSW Fire and Rescue spokesman told the Daily Telegraph that five rescue crews worked to contain a ceiling fire at the centre’s Toys R Us store around 4pm.

The fire is said to have been caused by oil in an air conditioning unit which generated a large amount of smoke. Firefighters extinguished the flames by about 5.20pm.

An Ambulance NSW spokeswoman said paramedics did not treat anyone at the scene.

The store is expected to reopen today.
