One Australian dollar buys 74.28 Japanese yen, from 74.14; 61.39 euro cents, from 61.36; 52.96 British pence, from 53.03; 107.40 NZ cents, from 107.52.

Friday morning, the local currency was at 68.32 US cents from 67.83 US cents on Thursday.
