Six Australian retail businesses have been named among the finalist of the The World Retail Congress 2014 World Retail Awards.
Finalists include Appliances Online, Catch of the Day, Clearly (The General Store), Winning Appliances, and Move, with Appliances Online in the running for two awards.
Appliances online has been recognised in the categories of Customer Experience of the Year and Pure Play Retailer of the Year; Catch of the Day for Pure Play Retailer of the Year; Clearly (The General Store), for Store Design under 12000sqm; Winning Appliances’ Redfern flagship for Store Design over 1200sqm; and Move for Best New Retail Concept.
The General Store, the retail strategy agency responsible for Clearly’s store design, took out the same category in 2013 for its design of the Shoes of Prey store within David Jones, Sydney.
Now in their eighth year, the World Retail Awards are recognised as a showcase for retail excellence and attract entries from hundreds of retailers from more than 50 countries across the world.
Finalist entries will be reviewed on September 28 by a jury of 16 senior retail leaders. Winners will be announced at the Awards Ceremony and Gala dinner at Salle Wagram, Paris on September 30.
The shortlist also includes retailers from Albania and Singapore for the first time.
“Once again, we are astounded at the calibre and number of entries to the awards. All the categories attracted an exceptionally high standard of entries from retailers across the globe,” said Ian McGarrigle, World Retail Congress chairman.
“In testament to the global reach of the World Retail Congress and these awards, I am particularly delighted to see an even greater number of entries from many more emerging markets, including retailers from countries such as Nigeria, Albania, India, China and Turkey.
“The finalists are all fantastic representatives for the international retail industry and how retailers continue to adapt and innovate in an increasingly challenging environment. We thank everyone for their entries and look forward to hearing the Grand Jury’s final decisions on the 30th of September.”
