Art’s bid to revive Chapel St

David BromleyAfter a stint at Eastland, renowned artist, David Bromley is turning his paint brush on Melbourne’s Chapel Street, in a bid to rejuvenated the shopping strip as part of a campaign titled “Art Meets Fashion”.

Vacancies on the iconic Melbourne street have hit a record high of almost 11 per cent, according to a recent report from Frank Knight.

“Art Meets Fashion” is an ongoing collaboration between Dulux, David Bromley and Chapel Street Precinct, which aims to rejuvenate the iconic streetscape. The project features selected shopfronts, given a makeover to rejuvenate the Toorak Road entrance of Chapel Street, exhibiting a colour palette selected by David Bromley.

“The Chapel Street Precinct is an iconic Melbourne landmark and a shopping district of choice for thousands of people every year. It’s wonderful we are able to lend a hand in breathing the life back to such a significant destination – especially renewing the streets beautiful buildings,” said Dulux colour marketing manager, Rachel Oakley.

Bromley and Melbourne shopping centre Eastland, recently teamed up to showcase an exhibition of art as part of the centre’s $665 million redevelopment.

As a Chapel Street resident, Bromley will art-direct the project, which will be executed in his style, including a specially-designed mural.

Chapel Street precinct spokesperson, John Lotton, is looking forward to welcoming the public to see the newly refreshed streetscape.

“Art and fashion really do go hand-in-hand, and this is a great way for us to capture and express the unique character of the Chapel Street area,” said Lotton. “We are really grateful for Dulux’s support and are delighted to involve our local business community and property owners and agents in this project, especially as many represent key players in the Australian fashion industry.”

Rachel Oakley, Dulux colour marketing manager, said the “Art Meets Fashion” project is part of Dulux’s dedication to improving the places and spaces in which we live and work.

“Colour has such a transformative impact on our environment, and we’re really excited to see our quality paints showcased throughout the finished artwork, ensuring Chapel Street remains as enjoyable and appealing for years to come,” said Oakley.
