Anthony Squires is set to expand its store numbers in David Jones. The Stafford Group, owner of Anthony Squires, will be increasing its concession stores to 30, says Stafford Group MD, Gary Davey. “We will probably open four more within David Jones in the next six months,” Davey told Inside Retail PREMIUM. At present, Anthony Squires has three standalone stores and 23 concessions in David Jones within NSW, ACT, Victoria, Queensland, South Australia, and Western Australia. “The expansion is
s exciting. We have a very good partnership with David Jones, and we’re building on that partnership by increasing the number of outlets.”
In WA there are also a couple of concessions that the company is considering, which will likely go ahead in 2016.
An Anthony Squires catalogue was inserted in the Australian Financial Review in March, around 80,000 copies carried the insert. “It’s the first time for some time – for some 10 years or more. It’s brand recognition – to build the brand,” Davey said. “It is a very nice catalogue.”
This move proved extremely beneficial in terms of sales performance as well as feedback on the look of the catalogue, he said. A hard copy publication of about 20 pages, the catalogue came out mid-March and has been so well received that the association with the Financial Review is set to continue.
This aligns with the Anthony Squires’ customer demographic – usually a successful professional or senior executive, around 40 to 65 years of age.
“We’ll do a catalogue each season now – one for winter and one for summer. The next one will be mid September.”
A number of catalogues were also sent out to Anthony Squires’ mailing list, and the company is looking at sending them to the David Jones’ platinum mailing list.
Online shopping is starting to take off for the brand. “E-commerce is starting to work. We’re also on the omni-channel in David Jones,” Davey said.
Understandably, for the Anthony Squires customer, the brand’s traditional offer remains popular, so colours such as blue, charcoal, and silver grey are strong at the moment, and set to continue through to summer.
The latest style that appears to be creeping in is checks. “There’s quite a few checks around at the moment, which may lead to double breasted suits, but at this stage I think that will be a little way off yet,” Davey said.
