Another rise for retail

 

Trolley, shopping, onlineYear on year retail sales have risen by 3.6 per cent for the month of October 2013, according to the latest figures from the Australian Bureau of Statistics.

Retail sales have risen on a like for like comparison basis for every month of 2013 to date, indicating an overall improvement in the market.

Total Australian retail revenue for October was $22.28 billion.

Month on month sales (October 2013 vs September 2013) rose 0.5 per cent in October 2013, seasonally adjusted, following a rise of 0.9 per cent in September.

Cafes, restaurants and takeaway food services saw the biggest leap in spending in October up by 1.2 per cent, followed by footwear and personal accessory retailing, 0.6 per cent; food retailing and other retailing, 0.5 per cent; while household goods remained static.

Department stores was the only Australian retail category to see a decline, falling 0.3 per cent.

Turnover rose in the ACT by Australian Capital Territory 1.4 per cent; Tasmania, 1.3 per cent; NSW, 0.7 per cent, Western Australia, 0.6 per cent, Queensland, 0.4 per cent; and Victoria, 0.3 per cent. These rises were partially offset by falls in the Northern Territory of 1.1 per cent, and South Australia, 0.3 per cent.
