Aldi ramps up

 

AldiAldi has announced it will invest $700 million to build two distribution centres and as many as 120 stores across South Australia and Western Australia.

The distribution centres will be located in Regency Park in SA and Jandakot Airport in WA.The first stores for each state are expected to open by 2016.

Aldi has appointed  South Australian firm, BADGE, to build the distribution centre in Regency Park, which is expected to be completed by October 2015. 

WA-based Georgiou Group has been appointed to build the Jandakot Airport centre, with construction to begin next month. 

Up to 50 stores are planned for South Australia with potential locations including Seaford Heights, Kilburn, Parafield Gardens, Blakeview, Hallett Cove, Woodcroft, Gilles Plains, Salisbury, Modbury, St Agnes, and Noarlunga.

In WA, around 70 stores have been outlined for the market, including Cannington, Southern River, Halls Head, Kwinana, Rockingham, Australind, South Lake, Joondalup, Camillo, Midland, Mundaring and Ellenbrook.

Aldi has 319 stores across Victoria, NSW, and Queensland.

Since first entering the local market in 2001, the discount supermarket chain is now estimated to have around five per cent of Australia’s supermarket sector.
