Aldi, Tong Li anchor revamped Auburn Central

Discount grocer Aldi has opened a new supermarket at the newly revamped Auburn Central shopping centre.

Aldi and Asian grocer Tong Li have moved into the mall after the closure and redevelopment of the Big W store there.

Mainbrace signed a contract with the property owner Elanor Investors Group and project manager Kaipara Property Group worth approximately $14 million to transform the 9500sqm centre and its 19 new retail tenants. Other new tenants include Zap Variety, a new medical centre, fresh food stores, restaurants, and cafes.

“Auburn Central is a popular centre integrated with a busy transport interchange. Despite the challenges and constraints of this busy environment, Mainbrace structured the major refurbishment to ensure minimal disruption to the existing businesses and the operation of the adjacent train station,” Mainbrace MD Rob Doust said.

The refurbished mall houses supermarkets, a medical centre and the Aldi grocery store.

Located adjacent to a major suburban train station, Auburn Central has high foot traffic. Besides the new tenancies, the revamp included the addition of a room for nursing mothers, and upgraded access ways and car-parking area.

“The refurbishment of Auburn Central delivers an elevated shopping experience for visitors and future-proofs the centre for many years to come,” said Doust.

“It is a significant addition to our retail portfolio in NSW and we’re proud to deliver another high-quality project for Elanor Investors Group.”
