BikeExchange CEO steps down, interim named

Australian bicycle marketplace BikeExchange says group CEO Mark Watkin has resigned.

Sam Salter, co-founder and current board member of BikeExchange, will act as the interim CEO while the company looks for a replacement.

“As an investor and shareholder in BikeExchange, I remain a strong supporter of the company, its people and strategy,” said Watkin. “I believe the future is very bright for the business, as it delivers on its mission of making it easy to buy and sell all things bike.”

As part of the group’s new operating model which includes significant reductions in employment costs, Ryan McMillan – who founded the company’s European region operations – has been promoted to COO. He has been with the group for more than 10 years and is well attuned to the business.

Likewise, Taylor Essick, co-founder and CEO of Kitzuma cycling logistics, will extend his role across the North American region to the combined BikeExchange and Kitzuma businesses. He will have a particular focus on industry, sales and strategy across the enterprise.
