Upparel partners with Save the Children to support those in need

Sock-retailer-turned-textile-recycler Upparel has partnered with charity Save the Children to help Aussies donate their unwanted clothes, which will then be sold in Save the Children’s retail outlets to further the charity’s mission to help the needy.

Customers can put up to 10 kilograms of unwanted clothing, linen and shoes up for collection by Upparel, which will then be passed onto the charity.

The charity is one of Australia’s largest aid and development agencies, helping the most vulnerable children and young people around the world. In 2019 it provided education and support to more than 33,000 children and adults across the country.

“We are very excited with our unique partnership with Save the Children,” said Upparel CEO Michael Elias.

“Not only is this the first time for a purpose for profit organisation introducing a digital solution to customers, but also demonstrating commitment and stepping up to end unnecessary textile waste and its environmental impacts.”

Upparel already offers collection of textiles, which are sorted and passed onto various charity partners such as Beddown, Ready Set, St. Kilda Mums, Alamanda Community Centre, Yarrabah School, and Footprints Early Learning Centres.

Save the Children’s national retail marketing manager Laura Prochowski said the partnership is a win for kids and a win for the planet.

“We believe the way forward is circular, which is why we’ve partnered with Upparel to ensure we’re leading the way in delivering a sustainable solution that reduces the amount of clothing going to landfill each year,” Prochowski said.
