The National Retail Association is the voice of modern Australian retail

We understand that retail has changed, and continues to change rapidly.  And we’re here to support you through that change.

We don’t brag about being an old association, because we think retail should be fresh and modern, not old and stale.

We don’t brag about how big we are, because to us every single member is important.

No matter how big or small your business is, when you call us for help you are our top priority. If you need help deciphering pay rates or employment law, our in-house law firm is right at the end of the phone.  We don’t refer you to external lawyers, so you can be sure your confidential information remains just that – confidential.

When you need advice on training, packaging laws, trading hours regulations or leasing, we are here for you.

Because when you join an industry association, it should be about you, not them.

If you’re not getting the right service from the “oldest” and the “biggest”, call the best.

Our services

Membership with the National Retail Association not only saves you money and time – you become part of the most powerful national voice in the Australian retail industry.

Your membership will allow you to access a full suite of practical services including employment, industrial relations and HR advice, retail training and courses, industry advocacy and committees, member discounts, resources and more.

Our in-house workplace relations and legal team provide you uncapped general advice via the Workplace Relations Hotline – we don’t limit how many times you can call. Members also receive discounted rates on legal services, from an unfair dismissal claim in the Fair Work Commission to a pay dispute in the Federal Court. Our team have unparalleled experienced auditing retail payrolls with our automated Award Assured tool. We have assisted some of Australia’s biggest brands with known payroll compliance issues.

The NRA Retail Institute has an excellent track record of delivering high-quality training for retail staff and facilitating traineeships to help the next generation of retailers shine. We work with all levels of government to provide relevant, current training to retailers, and we work with the Department of Employment and Workplace Relations to roll out training for seasonal jobseekers – meaning you can hire Christmas casuals already equipped to get on the shop floor and help at the busiest time of year.

The National Retail Association is also the only retail association entrusted by the State Governments of Australia to roll out educational campaigns for retailers on single-use shopping bags and plastic bag bans.  We’re on the ground, in the shopping centres, talking directly to retailers about these issues – just see how many everyday businesses we speak to on our Instagram account

Our committees and advocacy efforts get real results – our representation on key issues including sustainability, retail crime, and product standards has demonstrably aided retail.

Lastly, you can enjoy membership at the only retail association that celebrates your achievements. Our National Retail Awards, now in their 50th year, have continued rain, hail, or pandemic – going virtual in 2020 and 2021 to ensure we’re still recognising those who go above and beyond. One of the most wonderful parts of membership with the National Retail Association is that we are here for every single member, and your wins are our wins.
