Michael Hill hiring 1200 new staff for Christmas

Jewellery brand Michael Hill is looking to hire 1,200 new staff globally heading into the busy holiday season.

The business is looking to onboard 260 staff in New Zealand, 580 in Australia, and 360 in Canada.

“We are so excited to be able to provide [people] the opportunity to join the Michael Hill family,” said chief people officer Jo Matthews.

“Michael Hill has best-in-class training to onboard new team members to ensure they succeed. We’re looking for people who want to create outstanding experiences for our customers in a professional environment working with a business who cares about their team and community.”

And seasonable casuals will have access to more generous benefits after their first month with the business, Matthews said, including discounts on product, training and development, and the opportunity for career progression.

The jewellery business saw a strong year in FY21, with same-store sales up 8.6 per cent during the year and digital sales hitting $30 million. Australian stores saw sales grow 17.4 per cent, while New Zealand stores were up 19.1 per cent.

“As a global business that is performing exceptionally well, we are proud of our team and of our ability to provide more than a thousand employment opportunities for people during these challenging times,” Matthews said.
