How Lore of the Sea improved order dispatch speed by 1000 per cent

Sustainable women’s surfwear brand, Lore of the Sea, found its beginnings when founder, Laure Mayer, noticed a gap in the Australian surfwear market. As an avid surfer, Laure knew the importance of functionality but was determined to challenge the status quo by providing ethically-made, slow fashion surf wear. 

Laure moved to Bryon Bay in 2012, where she learned everything she needed to create her own surf wear and the e-commerce brand found its beginnings a couple of years later. 

Soon after launching, Laure realised that fulfiling orders came with its challenges. And as a one-woman show, finding a way to maximise her time was a necessary step toward success. Laure began to look for a way to automate her shipping and help streamline her operations, improve efficiencies, and increase productivity. 

“I chose ShipStation to save time. Picking and packing orders was taking up so much of my time so I was trying to find a more efficient solution,” Laure said. 

As an Australia Post e-commerce shipping partner, Laure has also been able to integrate ShipStation with her MyPost Business account to streamline her shipping process with her Shopify store and prevent repeated trips to the post office. 

“I like that whenever I receive an order, I log onto ShipStation and the information is all there. I make sure the [product] dimensions are set up for orders and then all I need to do is click and print and it all goes back to my website.” 

Laure soon found that she was able to ship out orders faster because she was no longer having to complete the manual process of handwriting shipping labels and dropping them off in person at the post office. 

All in all, she was able to increase her dispatch speed by 1000 per cent.

In addition to improving her fulfilment workflow and productivity, ShipStation has helped Laure decrease her manual labour by 300 per cent, cut the number of shipping errors in half, and even saved money by setting up automation rules in ShipStation to select the most cost-effective delivery option based on the customer’s location. 

ShipStation also provides Lore of the Sea with a reporting dashboard and performance data – from shipping cost analysis to customer information, which has helped Laure gather insights on popular inventory, and better predict how to grow her business. 

Developing an efficient shipping process has allowed Laure to focus on expanding her business and growing her product line. Laure is currently designing a new collection and is looking forward to bringing her first team member onto the Lore of the Sea team.
